Backyard weddings have a special place in my heart. Hosting an intimate ceremony/reception with your favorite people in your own space is so perfect. The historic home had modern touches and a lovely tree in the backyard for amazing filtered light for the ceremony. The thoughtful touches and lovely guests made it a perfect experience from a photography perspective.
That is one of the most important things to think about when deciding if you want to get married in a backyard location (yours or a family/friends) is checking the lighting for the time of day you plan to get married. Make sure to take into account the time of year and sunset time for that date. You can always Google your wedding date + location + sunset and find out the exact time you will lose light. That is the method I use when scheduling sessions year round.
Michael & Matt held their ceremony in their backyard and transformed their living/dining rooms into a reception space that was so well put together. My favorite planner/DJ combo Mel Boswell headed up this fabulous garden party. The grooms worked their butts off to get their backyard wedding ready. They did all of the landscaping themselves and their hard work really paid off. The April weather could not have been prettier for an outdoor ceremony.
Their ceremony was sweet and full of laughter from both the couple and the guests. The dried flower ceremony exit was PERFECTION and I am definitely a huge fan of ceremony exits over reception exits. The daylight is better and everyone looks fresher. Plus it’s a great way to get your guests involved in your ceremony in such a fun way!
Cocktails were served outdoors post ceremony amongst yard games. Dinner was prepared/served from their own kitchen in the middle of the reception space and created a lovely experience for all involved. Pair that with the signature cocktail jalapeno margaritas and you have a great combination.
Congrats to Michael + Matt on their Same Sex Dallas Wedding! Thank you so much for having me in your home and trusting me with such important memories.
